Summary

The 7th Academic Symposium of the China Chapter of the International Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Association and the 2nd Qiu Fazu Academic Thought Symposium were grandly held at the Wuhan International Conference Center from December 2 to 4, 2016. About 2,000 experts and representatives attended the conference. Professor Dong-Wook Choi, President Designate of Asia-Pacific Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Association, Academician Zhao Yupei, Vice President of Chinese Medical Association, Professor Huang Jiefu, Former Vice Minister of Health, Professor Guo Shenglian, Vice Governor of Hubei Provincial People’s Government, Professor Lu Gang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Tongji Professor Xu Yongjian, director of the hospital, attended the opening ceremony of the conference and delivered a speech. Academician Wu Mengchao, Academician Chen Zhaolong, Academician Liu Yunyi, former president of American Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Association Professor William Chapman, current chairman of Asia Pacific Professor Guozhen and many other well-known experts and scholars in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery at home and abroad attended the conference and gave wonderful speeches. In addition, many seniors and famous experts and scholars in the fields of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, internal medicine, and imaging were also present at the conference.

The conference discussed the progress of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery and the hot and difficult issues in recent years, exchanged experience in diagnosis and treatment, and promoted new theories, new technologies, and new methods. At the 2nd Qiu Fazu Academic Thought Symposium held at the same time as this conference, Academician Wu Mengchao of Shanghai Oriental Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Health Huang Jiefu, former President of Tongji Medical University Professor Wu Zaide, Academician Liu Yunyi of Hong Kong Prince of Wales Hospital, former Professor Wen Liyang, vice president of Tongji Medical University, and Academician Chen Zhaolong of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Kaohsiung, Taiwan both gave relevant keynote speeches on the topic of remembering Academician Qiu Fazu. More than 400 experts from the International Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Association from all over the world listened live and commemorated this Chinese medical leader. It aims to inspire our younger generation to learn from Mr. Qiu’s spirit and continuously promote the progress of medical and health undertakings. The meeting was a great success, and was well received by domestic and foreign experts and representatives, which played a further role in promoting the development of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery and related disciplines in my country.
